Leapin' Lizards...and other large reptiles!

"Meet our new "neighbors": deer, turtles, frogs, MORE FRICKIN' FROGS, and oh yeah...the ever poisonous Copperhead snake. I think it's time to put the fence up."...blog posting by The Jean Team on June 3rd.

Ummm, yeah. Two months later, the wild animal list found in our backyard is a little bit longer...and a little bit more dangerous. Please add lizards (they are small and cute), turkey vultures (or some type of turkey bird...ironically, four of them walked across our yard into the wetlands at the same moment I was broiling a turkey breast in the oven, haha)....and ALLIGATORS!!!

Phil was outside this morning working on his car and Willie was tied outside ("helping") at the front side of the house. Literally....no exaggeration...for real....no more than two minutes had passed after Phil and Willie came inside the house that the dogs went CRAZY at the back door. I have seen them excited before (i.e. refer to the top of this blog) but never this psychotic. It took my brain a minute to register the lumbering creature walking down the side of our house, past our patio (where we often tie the dogs up), and down the black silt fence that separates our property from the empty lot next to us. My first reaction was, "Oh dear, someone's pet iguana got loose". Then the reality of which state we now lived in hit me....OH LORDY, IT'S A GATOR!!! Phil and I were jumping up and down and shouting our excitement....the dogs were barking the loudest decibels heard to man....and Avery just sat in his Aquarium bouncy seat silent and wide-eyed. After a minute of acting like sugar-crazed children on Christmas morning, we grabbed the camera and video camera and went to work documenting the new family "pet" from a safe place: INSIDE THE FRICKIN' HOUSE!!

The alligator was approximately 4 to 5 feet long with a small body but HUGE snout. We will post a video of it at a later date (we have to find the camera cord)...this will truly show how big the gator was (the pics don't do it justice).

Again, I repeat my sentiment from June 3rd....maybe it's time to put up the fence. :)
