We have been trying to take a beach vacation all summer (sounds silly when you live 45 minutes from the beach, right?? What can I say, we love the beach!). However, the heavy rains all season have debunked those vacation plans every single weekend. I had taken the week off between our family gathering in NC and Avery's first day of pre-K (more to follow on that later) so Avery could have a nice relaxing break before he started school. We decided to use that time to squeeze in a quick trip to Myrtle Beach, as it was conveniently close to both Fayetteville and Charleston. Uggh. Dirty Myrtle. It rained. The beach was dirty and smelled like fish. Avery got stung by a jellyfish three times. We were all tired from Fayetteville. HOWEVER, we still enjoyed being away from home and enjoying our very first Jean family vacation. We'll pick a much better beach next year. :)
This was our first stop in Myrtle Beach. Kayla just HAD to bring in whatever Man Doll that is to eat lunch with us.
Too cool for school.
It rained the minute we made it to our hotel. So the first thing the kids did on their very first family vacation was watch cable TV!! There were no complaints from either of them. This is Avery's drawing of Randall, from "Monsters, Inc". I think it's pretty darn good.
I guess one of the drawbacks of being 6'8" is that you have to be extra careful when you put your four year old up on your shoulders.
Our one and only venture down onto the beach during our vacation. We could have done that from home for free.
Ahhhh...but we were still on vacation.
I really liked all of the wading pools of water during low tide.
Kayla with her cute bathing suit...and her dump truck.
One of Avery's jellyfish stings. I want to point out that this child has been in the water since he was five days old (true story, check the blog) and has not received one single jellyfish sting in almost four and a half years. In three hours on Myrtle Beach, he got stung three times. Dirty Myrtle, you suck. It's a pirate's life for Avery. At Joe's Crab Shack.
What the heck is this girl looking at????
Oh.Feeding the fish and turtles at a nearby shopping center.
I think Avery's tired. Getting stung by jellyfish will do that to ya.
This picture is hilarious on so many different levels. Okay, maybe just the one level. What a smart little girl.
Kayla in her Wonder Woman belt.
"Hi Mom!"
The kids loved this (free) playground. We loved the price.
Avery makes friends wherever he goes. Getting picked up by an older woman.
Last night in Myrtle Beach!
