Avery's First Day of School

Avery started a pre-kindergarten program at a new Montessori school last week.  He has been going to "school" (aka daycare) for two to three days a week for most of his life.  So this is a pretty significant transition to a five day a week program combined with a heavy curriculum.  On his first morning of school, Avery was not nervous at all and he maintained his silly spirit while tolerating his paparazzi mother fairly well.

Since his first day last Monday, Avery has remained very excited to go to school every single morning.  He loves his uniform, especially his "quiet shoes" that are worn in the classroom (don't tell him that they are just black ballet shoes with the bows cut off).  He is exhausted each afternoon by the time he comes home and he takes about an hour to unwind and return to my sweet boy Avery. But that just tells me that he is using his brain, body, and patience all day long.  This boy was built to learn.

Kayla and Mommy have been chillin' with each other while Avery is at school.  We usually run our errands (OMG, how come no one told me how easy it is to go grocery shopping with only ONE child????), hit up the pool, eat lunch, nap, and pick Avery up on my days off.  On my scheduled days to work, Kayla goes back to her daycare, where she has figured out that she is the only Jean at school now.  But in typical Kayla fashion, she will persevere and will soon return to being queen of the two year olds.
